A commercial for the rest of us out there

I want to let you all know that I am in no way endorsed by Samsung (but if you know someone that would like to make that happen shoot me an email) ha!

The Oscars have now come and gone, the flashy attire has come and gone and Warren Beatty’s moment has made us squirm in our chairs for the last time. A lot of incredible film makers, composers, actors and actresses state their highest moment of achievement at The Oscars, but there is another wave of creators that are left behind. The creators who started film making with their cell phones or maybe that creative kid you know who decided to show his abilities to the world online.

YouTube is one of the fastest growing online communities and a community which I avidly observe.

Samsung decided to pay an homage to this community by taking their rockstar Casey Neistat front and center for a 60 second commercial spot. In this commercial you hear Casey imploring the listeners to recognize that film and it’s creatives are not only the cast or crews involved in The Oscars, but are the everyday people who are doing what they can with all that they have to make a ripple in the community. I have had the great pleasure of working with film makers big and small in the YouTube world, from home town heroes to LA powerhouses and one thing remains the same across all accounts; every filmmaker has an innate creative desire and a dream to share that with others.

Why am I posting about a YouTube commercial from The Oscars?

I have worked on some film projects on YouTube, but would in no way consider myself a YouTube creator at this stage of my life. While I may not be the next film maker to your screens I think it is important to recognize the community for it’s incredible wealth of creativity, information and purpose. On top of that I think that I resonate with the inner creative behind YouTube. As a musician, blogger and influencer my desire to create is ever present. It was really neat that although it was behind the blanket of advertisement, creators like you and me were being advocated for.

To those of us who believe we can’t…Watch Us.
