Vanguard as defined by Oxford Dictionaries is, “A group of people leading the way in new developments or ideas.”

That is exactly what Ruitertassen has done with this bag.

Ruitertassen has a family heritage, stretching back to 1925, of being artisans in the way they craft their leather into timeless pieces. I wrote more on their history and another bag of theirs which you can read here.

Until now, Ruitertassen has crafted their bags as they have for over 90 years sticking to the appropriately named “Heritage” line. The Vanguard is the genesis of a new era for Ruitertassen. The amazing full grain vegetable tanned leather is still tanned by the Belgian tannery whose work dates back to 1873. This tannery once supplied Louis Vuitton before instructing Louis Vuitton in the art of vegetable tanning. All this to say, the leather remains phenomenal across all Ruitertassen lines.

For this look I jumped into a light weight suit and left the tie at home. The white sneakers are a classic and an easy way to dress down a suit. The leather color lends itself well to the creative side of the professional world. You can bring this bag along as easily with a casual look as you can a more formal look, that’s the beauty of the vanguard line.

The bag features a zipped external pocket, perfect for sliding those last-minute notes, your passport and anything you may need in a rush. Inside is a padded pocket perfect for your 13″ laptop, but the back will feature a 15″ if you are inclined to carry one. Sturdy snaps hold the front flap down and offer a welcome response when closing and opening. They also included a gorgeous key-chain in matching leather…it’s the little things speak volumes.
