Ruitertassen Hunting Outfit

Ruitertassen Hunting Outfit

Urban woodsman? Prep-school hunting? I don’t know how to classify this outfit but I do know that it hints at many that have come before.

Have you ever looked back at a period of time and wished you could live in that moment even if for just a second?

Sometimes I am watching a movie and I look at the settings longingly wishing that I could travel back in time to be a part of the culture. This outfit is inspired by a photo I came across and the style that was popular around 1912. The ever so popular show Downton Abbey was set during this time and if you watch the show I think you will see some style inspiration in this outfit.

Hunting Outfit

This artwork pictures men hunting in the early 1900’s.

Nothing looks better with this outfit than this gorgeous leather bag from Ruitertassen. The history of the bag and it’s classic styling set it perfectly in the time period that this outfit seems to evoke. When I had this bag on my back I felt as if I was headed off to some important meeting across the pond in the UK. The leather has only aged a little since my original article (Click HERE), but every day I love the bag more and more. (I left one of the tuck locks open when I got the shot from behind, but it’s too cool not to share and you can get an idea of how the tuck locks look…so why not) If you have any questions about the bag or are interested in the company feel free to reach out to me and I’d love to help.

While my outfit did take notes from a historical time it was also just the piecing together of items to create an outfit diverse in not only texture but also materials. These Red Wings are some of my favorite boots, a true work boot, but also a killer look. It has begun to get cold here in North Carolina and layering is not only stylish but essential. A winter white cable knit sweater is great for the colder months! I was able to snag the tweed herringbone blazer in the photos for a steal at a local thrift shop. $5!? Hunting Outfit Chest

Go out to your local thrift shops and look around, tweed blazers are almost always in the coat section. This just shows that you can find great pieces without destroying your wallet.

I’m all about changing things up and making the details speak for themselves. I decided to tuck my pants into my socks to give a more work ready look and to hopefully show off some of that cool Donegal wool. The tie is true flannel, and a really impressive build quality. I have owned both expensive ties and cheap ties and this tie from 15ties really impressed me.

In what ways have you let history influence your style?
