So you are headed to your big fancy dinner with your gorgeously made wingtips, wood stacks, goodyear welted soles, and the whole nines. You step into your car and realize you’ve lost all control of the pedals. If you drive a manual vehicle it feels like slapping a 2×4 against your pedals.

That is exactly why the driving shoes were invented!

Sometimes driving with your nicest shoes can be cumbersome and even scuff them up. The driving shoe was invented to combat this but has since been turned into a summer style piece. The shoes always feature a distinct rubber outsole that is segmented to flex and runs up the heel of the shoe. This style has taken many forms and has as many variations as you can think, but I found a budget friendly version from Rockport which serves the purposes that I need!

The Oaklawn Park Perf Penny from Rockport is lightweight, flexible and features minimal branding. The shoe features an EVA insole to provide extra cushioning and support, which I found comfortable for the quick trip here and there but wouldn’t say is all day comfort. The light leather upper looks great for the summer outfits and pairs back nicely with shorts or chinos.

I may end up keeping these shoes in my car as the perfect shoe to swap in when driving, but they are sure to see some summer sun as well. These shoes are definitely made for the movers; those who are on the go and ready to move.
