Fall is my favorite time of year. The cool weather finally rolls in, sweaters come out of storage and of course the trees change to the most radiant colors. Fall outfitting is all about one word…

LAYERS

final-3-of-1-2

Do not get up in the morning, throw on a button down and call it a day. There is so much more that you can do now that you are not sweating to death in your outfit. I was able to bring in a couple different layers and remain cool thanks to the materials at hand. Mauro, the brawn and brains behind Wolf vs Goat crafted a beautiful plaid shirt which is so light you would swear it is linen. The gorgeous maroon and gold hues play brilliantly along with the colors of the fall season.

On top of this shirt is a light merino sweater from Brooks Brothers. Camel is a beautiful color for dressing up in layers and also a very popular color within the street style world. It’s ability to both soften harsh blacks and to compliment a variety of color palettes makes it a MUST HAVE in your clothing arsenal.

The tried and true navy blazer is the closing layer to the look and not one that screams for attention. A traditional navy blazer will serve you oh so well every time you pull it out of your closet. The blazer takes this look from casual to elevated and that is an important consideration when choosing your layers. If you are going for a more relaxed-casual look, perhaps choose a bomber jacket, field jacket or the likes.

Texture

f-3-of-1

I love to mix textures. If you haven’t learned this yet, you soon will. Another easy way to add dimension to an outfit is by incorporating a blend of materials and weaves. By mixing your fabrics you are able to create a depth to the layers. (Layers on top of layers…clothing inception)

I decided to go with a subtle herringbone pant and pulled that into the top of my outfit with a herringbone wool pocket square. In my outfit you get a blend of different wools and cottons which creates the depth.

Give it a shot this week. Add some texture to your outfit and don’t be afraid to layer on as the temperature drops. Let me know what you come up with, I would love to see!
